Steve Believes: 2019 World Series

We are down to the final round of the 2019 Major League Baseball season, as the Washington Nationals take on the Houston Astros in the World Series. It’s also a battle between a team (Nationals) that’s looking to win its first championship in franchise and a team (Astros) looking to win its second championship in three years.

When both LCS matchups started 10 and 11 days ago, respectively, I predicted that both the Nationals and Astros would meet in the World Series, as I felt the former had the starting pitching to mow down the St. Louis Cardinals (they did) in a four-game sweep, while I felt the latter had both the starting pitching (check) and timely hitting (check) to outlast the New York Yankees in six games.

It’s been seven days since the Nationals have had an actual game, while the Astros have only been off for two days. But the wait is over and with that being said, here’s my prediction for which team will win the World Series, as well as which player will win the World Series MVP Award via the bullet point below:

  • Washington Nationals Vs. Houston Astros-Coming into this series, the Astros are the heaviest favorites to win it all since 2007, the year in which the Boston Red Sox won a second championship under then-manager Terry Francona in a four-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies. However, this Nationals team is way better than that Rockies team, so let’s not hand any team the trophy until one side wins four games against the other. Matter of fact, I’m going to go against the grain entirely by picking against the heavy favorite. Yup, I’m taking the Nationals, as I feel that they have a slight edge over the Astros in terms of starting pitching (Justin Verlander has looked somewhat mortal and Zach Greinke has been inconsistent). Plus, I don’t see Max Scherzer losing both of his starts in this series. The Nationals will beat the Astros at their own game and they will do so in five games. And as to whom will win the World Series MVP Award, I’m going to take the 2019 NLCS MVP Howie Kendrick, as I feel he will continue his timely hitting.

Well, that’s my World Series prediction. Tune six to nine days from now for my recap of this matchup.
