Flickasbord, Volume 111

Experiencing the highs of watching a Melissa Barrera movie and a Nadine Velazquez movie back-to-back, only to be mentally bogged down by “Ernest & Celestine: A Trip To Gibberitia” afterwards, can really take a lot of steam out of movie-assessing/re-assessing, thus only five assessments/re-assessments have been completed since. However, those five were concluded in under 48 hours, so maybe I’ve regained my energy in clearing what I have accessible to me. Let’s begin.

First up, the movie (Hitpig!) that’s next on my 2024 theatrical tour has both no trailer and pre-order listing via Apple nor does it have a pre-order listing via Amazon. However, it does have a pre-order listing on a Canadian website called “Videomatica”, which has been around since 1983. And given that Videomatica seems to have a bit more detail about itself than “Zavvi” does, the Jason Sudekis-led movie could find itself as the fourth movie to benefit from the now relaxed rule of how a movie can get an overall guaranteed Flickuum spot, as the trio of “The Substance”, “We Live In Time” and “Your Monster” are overall guaranteed Flickuum movies that don’t have hard copy confirmation yet. But of course, that Videomatica listing could go for naught if the aforementioned “Hitpig!” doesn’t have a flawless assessment. Stay tuned.

The number-crunching that I did for the amount of open Flickuum spots before “Dream Scenario” can graduate to Tier 5 has another twist, which is that “Piranha II: The Spawning” has been added to Tier 8, due to “French Girl” being a Tier 10 movie that failed its assessment. And of course, that’s not all for this twist because in addition, another movie that’s listed in Tiers 8 through 10 needs to fail their assessment/re-assessment, in order for “Piranha” to get into The Project. However, the latter of the three movies can’t automatically get a 26F designation in Tier 7, as it will need its aforementioned sequel to pass assessment since both of those movies are tethered together. Alright, now I have to untangle all of this convolution.

Mathematical savagery continues for The Project, as I compiled a list of 12 additional assessments (plus one Tier 7 “Holdover”) yesterday/last night, with the hopes that they all can be hidden gems before the New Year’s Day 2026 deadline. And of course, you can find out the dozen additions and the Tier 7 “Holdover” via the chart below:

MovieWhy it will be assessed/re-assessed
The ArgumentIf “Hover” fails, then this movie is another way for Cleopatra Coleman to be a part of Flickuum lore.
The Pirates Of SomaliaAl Pacino had a late 2010s trifecta of success with “The Irishman”, “Paterno” and “Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood”. This movie could turn that trifecta into a late 2010s quartet.
BarbarianThis movie has gotten a lot of buzz, so it’s worth seeing what all the rhubarb is about.
The Caine Mutiny“Old Hollywood” movies aren’t typically sought after for The Project, but this one is an exception, due to the presence of the late great Humphrey Bogart.
BasquiatJeffrey Wright transformed into Peoples Hernandez, lent his voice to a Pixar movie that is currently 87th in The Flickuum rankings and appeared in a late 2010s movie that could go down as his best movie in The Project. But this is the movie that put him on the map, so it’s worth assessing.
The HoldoversThis is the Tier 7 “Holdover”, as it has a potentially cozy vibe to it. Plus, it could be a movie that works well with anything that has either Nadine Velazquez, Melissa Barrera, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen or Anna Camp.
The Caveman’s ValentineSamuel L. Jackson’s knack for looking different from one live-action movie to the next is second-to-none, and this movie is just another example of that, thus why it will be assessed.
American High SchoolThis movie is one of two for Audrey O’Day, and it’s the more assessment-worthy of the two.
Flipper ‘63This movie could be a serious challenger to “101 Dalmatians” as the best movie of the 1960s.
Flipper’s New AdventureThis movie could be to its predecessor what “Babe: Pig In The City” is to “Babe”.
Flipper ‘96Paul Hogan is 0-for-3 in having movies of his make The Project. This movie could turn that 0 into a 1.
Sex AppealThis movie has the vibe of two failed movies in “The Outcasts” and “Crush”, but it could rise above those pre-conceived notions, due to the presence of Mika Abdalla.

And finally, there was another idea for a movie that I most want to see be made yet forgot about it when I was writing the Movie Mash blog entry. And as to what that idea was, well it was for the Tom Wilson-created comic strip “Ziggy”, due to “Harold And The Purple Crayon”, “Dog Man” and “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” each reminding me of it, although the former of those three predated it by 16 years and predated it as a book series at that. However, the point that I’m trying to make is that A] Sony turned a Crockett Johnson book into a full-length movie, and B] DreamWorks animation has turned comic strip style animation into a full-length movie before and will do so again for another full-length movie, thus either of those two companies could do the same for the aforementioned Tom Wilson-created comic strip. Plus, its more well-known than the “Captain Underpants” comic strip, thus that movie has to be made.

Well, a little more progress has been made in granting movies overall/pending overall guaranteed Flickuum spots, as the likely failed assessments/re-assessments of “Men Of Honor” and “Clementine” led to The Project additions of “Hunt To Kill” and the 2020 version of “The Invisible Man”. And of course, I will see what movies will foreseeably follow in their footsteps, as I’m confident that I can find some more Flickuum worthy talent within Tiers 8 through 10 between now and this coming November 20.

Until the next time.
