Flickasbord, Volume 130

I reneged once again on my “ironclad” rule of no more granting pardons to movies that are on the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page, thus Sydney Sweeney’s “Anyone But You” character will be blasphemous again. But there are 18 pardons that will be granted come the end of this entry and each one has a reason why they will be granted as such.

Let’s begin.

First up, let’s start with those 18 pardons and the corresponding reasons why in what will be the final chapter of me granting them. And of course, you can find out which movies that they are via the first of two charts below:

MovieWhy it has been pardoned
The Last Of The Mohicans It has the potential to outrank The Lone Ranger.
Pain & GainIt might not be a post-Snitch letdown in 2013 for Dwayne Johnson after all.
Saint MaudIt has the potential to be a good A24 movie to evaluate on a Sunday afternoon.
Spring BreakersIt’s Rachel Korine’s best chance at being a part of Flickuum lore.
Desperate MeasuresIt falls under the same category as One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.
Monster-In-LawThe fact that it was assessed during the same week as The Wedding Ringer, Flight and The Smurfs 2 could make it be a perfect movie to put in an evaluation line-up with The Bounce Back, which was re-assessed exactly a month after the latter of the three was evaluated.
The Cow Who Sang A Song Into The FutureIt could work well in tandem with The Last Of The Mohicans.
Sister ActThis movie is tethered together with its sequel.
Sister Act 2: Back In The HabitIt could extend Jennifer Love Hewitt’s pending evaluation total to three or four, depending on “How Shortcut To Happiness” does in its assessment. Plus, it could be Lauryn Hill’s best shot at Flickuum lore.
Rapture-PaloozaIf Drive Angry can be in The Project, then this movie at least deserves a re-assessment.
Baby MamaSigourney Weaver plays a really cringe character in this movie. But there is charm here, and I like that the late James Rebhorn was casted as the judge.
The Wedding PlannerIf the aforementioned Monster-In-Law can be re-assessed, well then this movie is joining it.
The TransporterThis movie put Jason Statham on the map (at least in my mind), so it totally deserves a re-assessment.
Transporter 2Amber Valletta not being cringe in “Hitch” after all improves this movie’s chances of making The Project.
Antwone FisherThis was one of the movies that began that February 2010 rebuild of The Project, by having its September 2008 evaluation revoked. But it should have never been booted out of The Project to begin with.
Held UpThis movie has the aesthetic of being perfect as the second half of either a nighttime evaluation doubleheader, or a nighttime-wee hours evaluation doubleheader.
Alex & The ListThe pay-off for Alex and Sara in the aforementioned “Hitch” planted the mental seed of another chance for this movie.
The Old Man & The GunInitially, I thought it was a letdown for Robert Redford after the 2016 version of Pete’s Dragon. But is it really when “Avengers: Endgame” gets to keep its fully guaranteed Flickuum spot?

Next up, we go from eleven to six, as the only way that I can re-assess “Girl 6” is by purchasing a physical copy of it via eBay, and the prices for each and every available physical copy of it are outrageous on both that website and Amazon. However, I took the calculated risk of purchasing “The Pill” on DVD at an outrageous price via the latter of the two websites, and I’ll do the same with this Spike Lee Joint, especially since the presence of Delilah Cotto warrants as such.

Helena Bonham Carter I feel gets typecasted as the free-spirited hot chick in several movies, such as “The Lone Ranger” and “Dark Shadows”. And while I don’t mind that, I like to see her in something that’s different than that. So, with that being said, I have decided to add the period piece movie “Howards End” to the assessment/re-assessment roster.

Ensemble dramedy movies with intertwining storylines can be a bit much at times, but “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” a.k.a. the 1,175th enshrined Flickuum movie does a masterful job with all of that intertwining. As a matter of fact, it does such a masterful job that I’ve decided to see what other movies that Mimi Gianopoulos has appeared in, because I felt that she worked perfectly well with both Anna Kendrick and Genesis Rodriguez in that movie. So, with that being said, I looked at the former’s filmography and found two more movies to possibly bring her Flickuum total to six. And as to what those two movies are, well they are “The Wine Of Summer” and “The Good Half”.

As it stands right now, there are 258 pre-Dream Scenario spots that remain completely open, which means that there is still room for entire franchises to make The Project. So, with that being said, the entire “Behind Enemy Lines” franchise has been added to the roster, due mainly to A] My roommate telling me that the first installment is worth checking out and B] The ultra-cool Joe Manganiello needing more Flickuum movies, as he appears in the third installment.

Staying on the topic of Enemy, well another [2001] movie with that word in its title has been added to the roster, simply because I keep getting it mixed up with the first Behind Enemy Lies installment, which was also released that year. And as to what that movie is, well it’s “Enemy At The Gates”, which I constantly saw trailers of during the 2000-01 NBA season. And of course, I still remember that all these years later, so I might as well see what all the rhubarb is about.

Ever have a movie that you’ve added to one of your streaming queues yet constantly forget that fact? Well, that was the case with “The Spitfire Grill”, which is yet another movie that that same roommate spoke highly of, so there is a reason that I added it to my Fandango At Home queue. But the constant forgetfulness about that movie is no longer a thing, as it’s both now documented in this entry and added to the roster.

Initially, I didn’t know how the movie “The Conversation” made it rent-free into my head. But after seeing the name Francis Ford Coppola as the director of that movie on IMDB, I remember Martin Thomas of Double Toasted bringing it up in the “Megalopolis” review, as the 2024 movie is the most recent [and possibly last ever one] directed by the 85-year-old legend. But back to “The Conversation”, as it’s yet another 1970s movie that I’ve heard good things about more than once, thus it has been added to the roster.

It’s been 106 evaluations since I’ve evaluated a Richard Pryor movie, with that movie being “Harlem Nights”. And that was the most recent time that I saw something of his, with that time being early/mid-June of last year. But that unintentional moratorium will eventually end, as I want to see another one of his famous movies just so that I can eventually say that I saw it. And as to what that movie is, well it’s the movie “Bustin’ Loose”. Hopefully, the 1981 movie can bust its way into a group that has the aforementioned “Harlem Nights”, as well as the trio of “See No Evil, Hear No Evil”, “Silver Streak” and “Moving”.

Every now and then, I e-mail movie titles to myself as reminders that they too need to be included in entries, such as this one, because I might not always be on/at my laptop nor have a notepad handy when the titles infiltrate my thoughts. But honestly, there’s no need for that self-messaging, as my instincts [of constantly checking the e-mail app that’s on my iPhone] take over. So, with all of that being said, my instincts yielded two pre-2023 movies that have been added to the roster. And as to what those two movies are, well they are 1] The Birthday Cake, due to it having Ashley Benson in its cast and 2] My Brother The Pig, because it has Eva Mendes and movies about pigs usually catch the eye of this “Babe” fan. Now let’s see if these yields can be eventually dividends for The Project.

I cited Sydney Sweeney’s blasphemy in “Anyone But You” via volume 129, as well as this volume. And of course, with that being said, I added “Under The Silver Lake” to the roster as my way of [almost] putting an end to the pardons, thus I searched her filmography to finally put an end to such. And sure enough, I found another movie of hers to add to the roster, with it being the Amazon original movie “Nocturne”.

And finally, five more new/upcoming movies have been added to the roster, as newer movies [18 to be exact] from the span of last October 8 to this most recent Monday night showed why they each belong in the group that was both started by Wildcats and extended by Paddington. And as to what five potential rookie phenoms have been added to the roster, well simply view the other chart that was already alluded to in this entry:

MovieWhy it has been added
The Anaconda Based on the title, this movie doesn’t seem like a remake of the 1997 movie, the latter of which I will also categorize as one of my “guilty pleasures”. Plus, the main draw of this movie for me is Daniela Melchior.
Mortal Kombat 2Its predecessor is on my roster. Plus, Johnny Cage finally makes his appearance in this rebooted franchise.
Nobody 2This movie’s predecessor benefitted from being re-assessed during the time that “Carmen” was assessed, thus it will most likely capitalize on that momentum.
Play DirtyNothing will ever supersede Arthur The King as Mark Wahlberg’s best movie. But I don’t expect a letdown here, along with the fact that Rosa Salazar is among the cast.
Deliver Me From Nowhere2024 was the year of the music biopic, as the trio of “Bob Marley: One Love”, “Back To Black” and “A Complete Unknown” were all worthwhile theatrical experiences. So, given that and the fact that it’s a Bruce Springsteen biopic, I expect Scott Cooper’s upcoming directorial effort to ride that wave of momentum into The Project.

Well, that 258 is now a 221, as 37 movies are now on the roster. But it remains to be seen if there will be a perfect 37-for-37 amongst these additions, as the trio of “Nightbitch”, “C.C. & Company” and “A Ghost Story” all squandered the opportunity of joining “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl” as movies that were successfully assessed/re-assessed in 2025. But luckily, there’s also a subsequent flip side to that, as A] Gemini Man proved that it can be a Project jump-starter via its successful re-assessment, followed by B] Act Of Valor and Hitch both being totally worth the rentals via Fandango At Home, and C] The trifecta of Syracuse, New York childhood theatrical outings being complete via the second re-assessment of “DuckTales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp”. So yeah, Aardman’s latest release gets some company in the category of successful assessments/re-assessments during 2025.

Until the next time.
