Six days ago, I did say non-verbatim that pardoning movies from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page would forever end. But two more (truly the last ever) movies on that page have emerged as exceptions.
Let’s begin.
First up, starting with those two movies, well the first one is “Jennifer’s Body”, due to it possibly having the potential to outrank “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”, the latter of which was granted a 30F designation in Tier 7 a little over two months ago. And as to the second one, well that one is “Silence”, simply because it’d be cool to have a Top 10 of Martin Scorsese movies within The Flickuum Project and I’m two away from that feat.
Next up, reading about the plot of “Companion” and constantly hearing good things about it, I’ve decided to add it to the assessment/re-assessment roster. However, I’m in no rush to see it theatrically nor will I have “Heart Eyes” on my 2025 theatrical tour, as I instead want to assess both movies back-to-back. So, with that being said, I’ll wait until both of them become available via streaming.
Back to the topic of Martin Scorsese, it turns out that I could have a Top 10 of his movies within The Project, as A] Six of his movies have been enshrined, B] Raging Bull could be in my collection any day now, C] Killers Of The Flower Moon is in my March Madness selection protocol, D] The Aviator is on the roster and E] Silence was just added to the roster. But why not be like The Nostalgia Critic and possibly take it one step beyond, as I have never seen “Gangs Of New York” and I feel like that that movie will get strongly recommended to me, thus that one will also get added to the roster. Looks like a Martin-thon will occur during one of my evaluation break periods next month. Stay tuned.
And finally, Sofia Carson made her character in “Carry-On” totally easy to root for, thus a reason why that movie is one of the 47 Tier 7 movies that is currently on pace to graduate to Tier 5. Of course, her movie “Songbird” was 305 evaluations ago, but I honestly overlooked her, in favor of Alexandra Daddario. But now that the former of the two actresses is more known to me, I decided to look through her filmography to see if she has any more movies that I want to assess. And as it turns out, she does, in the form of “Purple Hearts”, which has the potential to be a powerful character-driven movie and she is the top-billed name in it. So, with that being said, that movie has of course been added to the roster.
Well, the slump of finding additional Project movies, following the successful re-assessments of both “Nosferatu” and “Super” continued this past weekend, as A] A Champion Heart might as well be the fourth installment of the failed “Flicka” franchise and B] The fate of the dog in “The Witch” doesn’t lead to John Wick-like vengeance. But I feel like “Dog Man” will end this current drought, which both began with “Friends & Family Christmas” and was extended by “The Witch”.
Until the next time.
